2012

January 16, 2012

We are already half a month into January 2012.  Half a month closer to the start of the 2012 F1 season.  Half a month a month closer to seeing if Ferrari can follow through on their vow to “bounce back”.  Half a month closer to seeing if the fleet of new drivers have got what it takes.  Half a month closer!

This year has already seen some exciting action on the F1 scene.  The starting grid for the first race will consist of no less than 6 World Champions, with the much anticipated return of Kimi Raikkonen, and at least 2 rookies.  Combine this with the team name changes (Renault to Lotus, Lotus to Caterham, Virgin to Marussia) and you have got an extremely confusing first race!

I, for one, hope that this season we see a bit more of a competition.  While I enjoyed last season, there can be nothing better than a blow-for-blow Championship, with the winner decided by the final race.  With some new (and old) faces on the block, a Ferrari vowing to get back into the fray and a Sebastian Vettel primed for a hat-trick of F1 Championships I’d say that we are in for one hell of a season.  And, if the world were to end at the end of the year hopefully F1 will have ended with a bang!
